Our first restaurant opened in Detroit in May 2021, fittingly during the week of Joe Louis’s birthday.
From the beginning, our vision extended beyond one restaurant. We wanted JLSK to introduce Joe’s story to new generations while creating jobs, supporting communities, and building something Detroit could be proud to call its own.

In 2025, that vision grew with the opening of our second location in Southfield. Our journey continues with JLSK Downtown and a vision that reaches beyond Metro Detroit.
But no matter how far we grow, Detroit will always be home.
Detroit is not simply where Joe Louis became a champion.
It is where his story became part of ours.

We serve breakfast. We serve brunch. We serve Southern food made with love. But we’re in the community business. We believe a restaurant should be more than the food that comes out of its kitchen. It should create jobs and opportunities, support the neighborhood it calls home, and provide a welcoming place where people celebrate, connect, and feel like they belong.
Joe Louis was never only the champion of those who could afford a ringside seat. He was a champion of the people.
That spirit continues through the Joe Louis International Sports Foundation, founded by Joe and his wife, Martha, in 1978. Led today by his youngest living daughter, Joyce Louis Barrow Henderson, the Foundation empowers young people through sports, education, and mentorship.
